Knives are a tool that no man should be without. They cut, scrape, remove slivers and take on many different forms. The tactical knife has found a high degree of popularity right now for many reasons, all of which have are rooted in the need for unflinching performance in down right hostile conditions and on high speed missions.
Well, not all of us are “High SpeedOperators” and even if we’d like to think that midnight run to 7/11 for a gallon of milk is a high profile night Op that requires a sidearm and night vision, sometimes a run to 7/11 is just a run to 7/11!! And sometimes its nice to find a pocketknife that is just that… A pocket knife… Something simple yet elegant that fits nicely in your pocket and doesn’t scream “I could overthrow a 3rd world government with this knife and my MultiCam pants!!”
Known for their torches and multitools, Coast has put together the Manly Man’s pocket knife. Barrowing on the tactical theme with a no nonsense blade and liner lock, they have added wooden grips and a deeply grooved backstrap making a beautiful and functional knife that is equally at home on the range punching steel or whittling with grandpa on the front porch. They have mated the best of tactical with traditional and have come up with something very special. Something they call the C1104.
This knife is a dream to use…The blade deploys smoothly with no catches or snags. Just one consistent push from start to finish. The thumb stud is nicely rounded over and not step reduced that often results in a sharpish point thats uncomfortable to push until it wears down. A lot of thought went into the design of this knife and it shows.
The blade is straight and no nonsense. Void of the serrations that often consume too much real-estate, the Coast C1104 can handle business. The edge is factory sharp with a titanium coating for durability. The knife is a pleasure to hold and use. Despite its size of 8.75” when open, its not at all cumbersome. The balance is there and the blade has enough substance to take a lot of abuse. Billed by Coast as a hunting knife, I believe that it would work just fine in that capacity as well as that of camp knife and hiker.
I like the C1104 and it has found a place in my knife rotation. Not every situation calls for a tactical folder. Sometimes, you just need a good reliable knife to get the job done… When that need arises I call on my Coast C1104!!
